Week in Review: Imaging of winter sports injuries | 3D printing advances in the liver | Radiology reporting by med students

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

The winter sports season is upon us, and no doubt hospitals across Europe are gearing up for the customary succession of injured skiers, snowboarders, and other thrill-seekers.

At this week's RSNA virtual meeting, Swiss trauma experts gave a very timely masterclass on the more challenging cases that can arise. They've also elaborated on how imaging can help and shared a stunning selection of clinical images. Find out more in the MRI Community.

Another highlight at the RSNA 2020 conference was Portuguese research on the clinical applications of 3D models in the liver. They can reduce surgical and anesthetic time, cut the number and severity of complications, shorten hospitalization time, and improve surgical precision. Visit the Advanced Visualization Community for more on this story.

The idea of actively involving medical students in the reporting workflow might sound radical, but this is exactly what's being done at University Hospital Basel in Switzerland. The approach is fostering their understanding and interest in radiology, and the use of structured reporting is proving especially advantageous.

New information has emerged at RSNA 2020 about the use of imaging in COVID-19 cases. For instance, a German group presented comprehensive data about the use of CT and radiography during the first wave of the pandemic. Learn more in the CT Community.

Away from the RSNA, the positive recent news about the development of COVID-19 vaccines and the introduction of more widespread testing has offered a glimmer of hope that ECR 2021 can be a face-to-face congress. Don't miss our update article about the event.
