The devolved government for Scotland announced on 13 July that breast cancer screening will resume on 3 August.
The government paused its breast screening program in March due to concerns regarding the novel coronavirus. While screenings will remain the same, facilities will implement additional infection control protections, such as the use of personal protective equipment by staff and staggering appointment times to facilitate social distancing.
"I am delighted breast cancer screening is resuming and I would urge everyone to attend their appointment, as screening can find early signs of cancer," Scottish Secretary for Health and Sport Jeane Freeman said.
Invited patients will receive a letter in the mail with instructions on how to schedule an appointment. This includes patients whose appointments were canceled as well as those who were unable to attend a previously scheduled appointment for any reason.
"The safety of patients and staff will continue to be our priority as all of the national screening programmes restart and expand," Freeman said. "I want to reassure you that we are taking these precautions so that we can safely offer the right care, at the right time, in the right place."
