The German Radiological Society (Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft, DRG) has developed a new set of recommendations for imaging small joints with MRI.
Although the society published its joint MRI protocol as recently as January 2018, the general protocol does not cover the nuances required for thorough examination of smaller joints, such as the finger, foot, and jaw joints, Dr. Christoph Rehnitz from University Hospital Heidelberg said in a DRG statement. The updated recommendations for small-joint imaging can help improve the visualization of subtle pathologies, including inflammation and tumor changes.
The recommendations apply to small-joint imaging on all modern MRI systems, regardless of manufacturer.
