Materialise invests in 3D printing software firm

Belgian software developer Materialise has cofunded 3D printing firm Essentium's series A investment round.

The financing round will support the development of an advanced fused filament fabrication software that can use Essentium's FlashFuse technology to increase the mechanical strength of extrusion 3D-printed parts.

German chemical company BASF has provided its know-how and product portfolio to Essentium as the companies seek new ways to integrate advanced 3D printing hardware, software, and materials.
