The U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has launched a new process for its fellowship examinations that uncaps the number of candidates and allows more flexibility in terms of location.
On 9 March, the FRCR (Fellow of the RCR) Anatomy examination took place using new software allowing close to 500 candidates to attend computer venues at sites in Belfast, Birmingham, Glasgow, London, and Stockport, as well as overseas locations in Hong Kong and Singapore. The vast majority of candidates secured their first-choice venue, with a small number placed in their second-choice location.
"This is a major milestone for the RCR," the society stated in a press release. "We are already seeing improvements in the exam process, including much-needed increased capacity, more flexibility in location, less time spent traveling to London, improved standardization, and reduced resource required to prepare and mark questions."
The next step in the process is to introduce the testing platform for the Final FRCR Part B rapid reporting and reporting elements. Longer term, the society plans to develop additional functionality and further increase the venue offerings to candidates.
With more than 10,600 fellows and members worldwide, the RCR leads, educates, and supports doctors who are training and working in the specialties of clinical oncology and clinical radiology.
