Dear Digital X-Ray Insider,
When it comes to radiation dose, staff are not as vigilant for x-ray units as they are with CT systems, and diagnostic reference levels need updating across much of clinical practice, according to a new analysis from France.
Particularly alarming is that only around 30% of the country's 5,100 x-ray departments complied with the requirement to submit dose information for the period of 2013 to 2015. To get the story and the authors' safety recommendations, click here.
A story broke on Friday about a backlog of 23,000 chest x-rays at a U.K. hospital, and this revelation has led to a review of radiology reporting across the National Health Service in England. Click here for the full details.
X-ray scans continue to account for a small but significant proportion of litigation claims involving radiology. This topic was addressed at last month's British Institute of Radiology annual congress in London. What are the most common causes of lawsuits? Click here to find out.
The work of Marie Curie continues to inspire and generate massive interest. Her contribution to World War I, and specifically to battlefield medicine, has captured the attention of Timothy Jorgensen, PhD. To read his fascinating article, click here.
