Will virtual reality transform fetal imaging? | Breast screening for under 40s | Cardiologist's view on MRI

Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,

It's tempting to dismiss VR baby, the new virtual reality product from Finland, as a fad and gimmick. Admittedly, it's hard to see it ever being of any great clinical value, but it might well turn into a significant marketing tool and source of revenue, particularly for private hospitals and clinics.

The developer thinks the product could transform fetal imaging. Take a look for yourself in our Advanced Visualization Community, or by clicking here.

Should you screen women under 40 for breast cancer? This is one of the most difficult questions facing the organizers of breast screening programs. A respected Irish group have published a new study in this area. Get their findings in the Women's Imaging Community, or click here.

When I met cardiologist Dr. Sven Piepenburg last September at the annual congress of the European Society of Cardiology, I was impressed by his knowledge of MRI, but was surprised to hear he'd only worked with the technology for a year -- though he conducted around 800 exams over that period. He's written a column about his experiences. Click here to read it.

Very few European researchers received a magna cum laude or cum laude award at the RSNA 2016 meeting. One of the prizewinners came from Barcelona, Spain, and the topic was imaging of the peritoneum. For the full story, visit the CT Community, or click here.

Finally, the U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has updated its standards on the practice of teleradiology. They're free to download from the RCR website and are worth a close look. To learn more, click here.
