Dear PACS Insider,
Which PACS monitor characteristics and specifications most affect diagnostic performance? A research team from multiple institutions across Italy has been working to answer that question for a number of different imaging modalities and clinical scenarios.
In a study presented at last week's RSNA 2016 meeting in the U.S., Dr. Calogero Cicero of General Hospital "San Bassiano" reported that the luminance and spatial resolution of LCD monitors affected the ability of radiologists to identify cerebral infarction on brain CT exams. The decline in performance from using lower-performing displays was particularly noticeable for junior radiologists. What else did the researchers find? Click here for our coverage of the research.
Talk of artificial intelligence and big data analytics was rampant at RSNA 2016, but there was also an abundance of viewing software on display in Chicago. In a column for AuntMinnieEurope.com, Stephen Holloway of Signify Research discusses the market dynamics behind current trends in visualization software and also explores how viewers may evolve in the future.
Speaking of big data analytics, what do radiologists really need to know right now? Mr. Holloway shares his three takeaway points in another column, which you can access by clicking here.
PACS is widely used today in Saudi Arabia and has yielded a number of important benefits, including shorter hospital stays and improved efficiency and clinical decision-making. However, a number of challenges remain to PACS usage, including the time taken to find images, recurrent system downtime, and insufficient training, according to a recent review of PACS implementations in the country. What else did the researchers find? Click here to get all of the details.
There's an urgent need for effective vendor-neutral peer feedback and peer-review systems for reported imaging studies, according to Royal College of Radiologists President Dr. Nicola Strickland. How would this benefit radiologists? Click here to learn more.
