Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,
The Journées Francophones de Radiologie (JFR) drew to a close in Paris on Monday. There were many highlights over the four packed days, and identifying hot topics and central themes at this major congress is a difficult task, but in our news coverage from the event, we've focused on three of them:
- The White Book, which contains 29 intriguing proposals to ensure radiology has a bright future. No fewer than 55 authors contributed to this publication. Click here to learn more.
- One-day breast cancer screening clinics, a concept under investigation at one of Europe's top cancer hospitals, the Gustave Roussy Institute. Go to our Women's Imaging Community, or click here.
- Safety of MRI contrast agents -- as the controversy continues over gadolinium, we've got a roundup of the current thinking on these products and a summary of the JFR session. Visit the MRI Community, or click here.
Away from the JFR, the new president of the Royal College of Radiologists, Dr. Nicola Strickland, has expressed strong concerns about the shortage of radiologists in the U.K. The situation is desperate and has worsened since the Brexit vote in late June, she says. Get the full story here.
Many sonographers suffer from musculoskeletal (MSK) pain, but there are ways to alleviate the discomfort, according to Swedish researchers. They assessed the experiences of 300 sonographers and found those with more stressful work environments had higher levels of MSK pain. Simple adjustments can lead to improvements, however. Knowing the expected age of patella ossification is valuable because it enables radiologists to spot an unexpected case and can help in patients suspected of having a disorder that involves absent patellae or delayed patella ossification, noted researchers from a top London hospital. They studied 331 x-rays conducted at Barts Health National Health Service Trust. Their findings are well worth a close look here.
