Proton therapy developer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) said that more than 50,000 cancer patients have now been treated with its technology.
On average, one new patient is treated every hour on IBA systems around the world, according to the vendor.
In other IBA news, the company has received a contract to install a ProteusOne proton therapy system at a private clinic in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The contract with Proton Partners International (PPI) represents the first of its proton therapy systems to be installed in the Middle East, according to the company.
The project would also be the fourth center built for PPI and is part of a framework agreement IBA signed with Philips Healthcare in September 2014, the firm said.
