Moderate growth in its diagnostic imaging business helped balance declines in other healthcare segments for Siemens Healthineers in the third quarter of fiscal 2016 (end-June 30).
Third-quarter revenues decreased slightly to 3.23 billion euros ($3.6 billion U.S.), compared with revenues of 3.246 billion euros ($3.61 billion U.S.) in the third quarter of 2015. Revenues were flat on an actual basis and up 2% after currency adjustments.
Third-quarter profit slumped to 534 million euros ($594.9 million U.S.), compared with profit of 549 million euros ($611.6 million U.S.) in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.
Orders in the fiscal third quarter climbed to 3.382 billion euros ($3.76 billion U.S.) from 3.318 billion euros ($3.7 billion U.S.) in 2015's third quarter. Siemens credited orders from Asia and Australia and particularly strong gains in China for the increase.
For the nine-month period, revenues advanced 6% to 9.837 billion euros ($10.96 billion U.S.), compared with 9.309 billion euros ($10.36 billion U.S.) in the same period of fiscal 2015. Profit rose 9% to 1.629 billion euros ($1.81 billion U.S.), compared with profit of 1.488 billion euros ($1.66 billion U.S.) in the same nine months last year.
For the first nine months of fiscal 2016, orders increased 5% to 9.977 billion euros ($11.12 billion U.S.), compared with 9.526 billion euros ($10.6 billion U.S.) in the same period a year ago.
