French ultrasound technology developer SuperSonic Imagine has signed contracts to provide its Aixplorer ultrasound scanner to two European sports organizations.
The deals are with the Sport Lisboa Benfica football club in Portugal and Pure Sport Medicine, a sports medicine clinic in London. Both have acquired Aixplorer scanners with the company's ShearWave elastography technology to diagnose and treat injured athletes, as well as to monitor their recovery.
The scanner's image quality is optimized for applications in musculoskeletal imaging, while ShearWave elastography can be used to visualize and measure the stiffness of muscles and tendons, according to SuperSonic. This can help users diagnose tendinopathies and examine muscular load with real-time visualization of anatomic and functional images of muscles when they are in full use.
