Researchers at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm have launched a study that will use MRI to investigate the efficacy of medication to reduce feelings of pedophilia in men who are sexually attracted to children.
The study, called Priotab (Pedophilia at risk -- Investigations of Treatment and Biomarkers) began in March and is being conducted through the hospital's Center for Andrology and Sexual Medicine. Study participants have not previously been known for or convicted of sex crimes, but have sought help themselves for their sexual predilections via Sweden's national PrevenTell helpline.
The study will investigate whether preventive medication can reduce the risk of someone committing assaults on children, and will include neuropsychological tests, blood sampling, and MR brain scans, the hospital said.
