Dear AuntMinnieEurope Member,
The Paris bombings showed that every hospital must be prepared for a mass casualty incident, and that radiology departments often are in the front line when tragedy strikes.
Radiologists at the University of Munich seem to be particularly well prepared in this regard. Following a simulated mass casualty incident, a revamped central emergency department was opened in 2015, and special attention was given to CT. For the details, go to our CT Community, or click here.
Reliable alert systems are in short supply in the U.K., and the country suffers from a glaring lack of uniformity, according to research from the Royal of Radiologists (RCR). All providers of imaging services must review their processes and ensure that the systems for communication of important test results are robust, urges RCR President Dr. Giles Maskell. Meanwhile, standardized service documentation is the theme of a new article by Dr. Mathias Cohnen, from Neuss in Germany. He's convinced that good practice in this area is central to the implementation of effective and workable management strategies. Get the full story here.
When contrast injection is tailored automatically to patient weight in coronary CT angiography, the result is consistent enhancement, say Dutch researchers. A team from Maastricht University tested its automated contrast injection device and compared the results with a control group. By inputting patient weight before the scan, the investigators ended up with even opacification and other benefits. Go to our Cardiac Imaging Community, or click here.
Up-and-coming healthcare offerings that make use of CT -- mobile stroke units and spectral CT -- occupied top spots on a list of technology trends to watch for in 2016. Click here for the details.
Finally, the Total Radiology Conference is underway this week at Arab Health 2016 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. For our live coverage from the meeting, including an update on breast screening in Saudi Arabia, go to AuntMinnie Middle East.
