The GE Foundation, the philanthropic organization of GE and GE Healthcare, said it will provide a $1 million grant to the International Rescue Committee to help displaced Syrian children and families in Europe.
The committee has more than 3,000 aid workers and local volunteers working in Syria and neighboring countries to help the more than 11 million Syrians who are displaced due to the war and violence, the foundation said.
International Rescue Committee was one of the first aid organizations to assist thousands of refugees arriving daily on the island of Lesbos in Greece. The workers are providing essential services such as clean water and sanitation to those in need. The committee is also providing the refugees with legal aid, GE said.
