Radiologist jailed in India over prenatal sex determination

An Indian radiologist from Pune in the state of Maharashtra has been sentenced to a six-month imprisonment for not maintaining records under the country's Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, as well as not submitting monthly reports and not displaying his clinic's registration certificate, according to a report from Times of India.

Dr. Vinit Mahajan was sentenced by judicial magistrate K.M. Pingale. Mahajan has also been fined 8,500 Indian Rupees (106 euros), the Times reported.

The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act was enacted in 1994, and bans prenatal sex determination.
