The U.K. Department of Health (DH) has unveiled plans to develop proton radiotherapy through National Health Service (NHS) centers in London and Manchester.
The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) applauded the decision, and commented that children with cancer and adults with spinal tumors, head, and neck cancers will benefit from proton radiotherapy.
The treatment also is expected to help patients with difficult-to-access abdominal tumors and certain types of brain and eye tumors.
