The European medical technology industry association Eucomed has launched an online conference vetting system to review and approve third-party educational conferences sponsored by vendors and commercial companies.
The independent system to assess conferences according to Eucomed's ethical standards began on 21 March and will operate for six months in a pilot phase. Under its Code of Ethical Business Practice, the Brussels-based organization's corporate members and members of national industry associations may sponsor third-party educational conferences.
Eucomed stated that the sponsorship by industry of medical education conferences is fundamental to the relationship between healthcare professionals and the medical technology industries because it promotes innovation and dialogue between the two groups.
Conferences being held in the European Union, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, and the Middle East will be vetted. After that, they will be listed at the website www.ethicalmedtech.com.
