GE Healthcare has received a research and development award from U.K. charitable organization Wellcome Trust to explore the potential use of MRI for newborns at high risk of brain injury.
The award, which marks the first time GE has collaborated with Wellcome Trust to extend the reach of MRI technology, will initially be used to investigate how MRI could be placed within the neonatal unit itself, the vendor said. GE believes the research will lead to a better understanding of the technology required to care for infants in a neonatal intensive care environment.
