Acuitas Medical secures investment

MRI software company Acuitas Medical of Swansea, Wales, U.K., has secured funding of 700,000 euros ($900,000 U.S.) from two sources to further develop its MR-based fine texture analysis (FTA) technology for the early diagnosis and management of cancer, organ fibrosis, and other diseases.

The equity investment from Finance Wales and Altima Global Special Opportunities Master Fund will help the company, formerly known as OsteoTronix, commence clinical studies to demonstrate the capabilities of its FTA technology for a range of diagnostic and therapy management applications.

FTA is designed for the characterization of biostructures substantially smaller than 1 mm, which, according to the company, is currently impossible with other imaging techniques.

Acuitas noted that FTA can be installed on any MRI scanner without modification or additional hardware and provides diagnostic results in less than five minutes.
