Siemens posts profit hike in Q2

Strong revenue growth in Asia and Australia partially offset declines in other regions of the world in Siemens Healthcare's second fiscal quarter (end-March 31).

The Erlangen, Germany-based division of Siemens AG posted revenue of 2.97 billion euros ($3.92 billion U.S.) in the second quarter, down 1% compared to 2.98 billion euros ($3.95 billion U.S.) in the second quarter of fiscal 2009. Second-quarter profit advanced to 492 million euros ($649.4 million U.S.), compared with 355 million euros ($468.6 million U.S.) in the same quarter of fiscal 2009.

Siemens also noted that new orders in the second quarter declined slightly to 2.945 billion euros ($3.92 billion U.S.), compared with 2.951 billion euros ($3.92 billion U.S.) in last year's second quarter.

For the six-month period, revenues slipped to 5.8 billion euros ($7.9 billion U.S.), compared with 5.9 billion euros ($8 billion U.S.) in the same period of 2009. Six-month profit increased to 1.01 billion euros ($1.4 billion U.S.), compared with 697 million euros ($947.4 million U.S.) in the same period a year ago.

New orders at the mid-fiscal-year mark edged down at 5.82 billion euros ($7.73 billion U.S.), compared with 5.85 billion euros ($7.78 billion U.S.) in the same period a year ago.

Siemens Imaging and IT division, meanwhile, achieved second-quarter profit of 374 million euros ($493.7 million U.S.), compared with 265 million euros ($349.8 million U.S.) in the second quarter of fiscal 2009.

For the six-month period, profit grew to 731 million euros ($993.5 million U.S.), compared with 527 million euros ($716.8 million U.S.) in the same period of fiscal 2009.
