Healthcare telecommunications provider BT Health is to take over responsibility for supporting hospitals in the south of England as part of the U.K.'s Connecting for Health information technology project.
BT Health is taking over responsibilities once held by Fujitsu, which left the Connecting for Health project last May, according to an article published by eHealth Insider. The southern England region runs Cerner Millennium software from Cerner of Kansas City, MO.
The "contract change negotiation," signed by BT Health and the National Health Service (NHS) on March 31, is rumored to be valued at more than 100 million pounds ($148.5 million), according to the story. Details of the contract, which took 10 months of negotiation, are scheduled to be announced next week.
In May 2008, Fujitsu had its 1.1 billion pounds ($1.63 billion) local service provider contract terminated by NHS. It has continued to provide interim support for the sites.
