Italy garnered the largest number of abstract submissions as the European Society of Radiology (ESR) concluded its late-breaking abstract submissions at an all-time high.
Leading up to ESR's annual congress that begins 26 February, a total of 1,240 late-breaking abstracts were submitted, reported congress organizers. This brings the ECR 2025 overall submission count to almost 10,000 abstracts, a 13% increase from last year's total abstract submission numbers. The previous record was set in 2020.
"Under the theme of ‘Planet Radiology,’ which emphasises planetary health, sustainability, and global health equity, I feel these submissions demonstrate a collective determination to innovate and collaborate in ways that extend beyond medicine and resonate globally," stated ECR 2025 Congress President Prof. Andrea Rockall. "I look forward to witnessing the impactful research that will shape both our field and our planet’s future.”
Submissions span participation from 112 countries, ESR said. Noteworthy growth came from China and Romania. Following Italy for submitting the most abstracts are India, China, the U.K., and Spain.
The late-breaking abstract submission phase allows researchers to highlight their most recent discoveries and provides an additional opportunity for those unable to submit during the initial submission period. Submitters of late-breaking abstracts will be notified of the acceptance status in the coming weeks, the ESR said.
