The dramatic CT scans of a 25-year-old woman involved in a car crash are attracting attention on the internet, according to London newspaper Metro.
Trauma workup revealed a traumatic brain injury with intracranial hemorrhage, a traumatic eye injury requiring enucleation, and extensive facial fractures. The CT scans show the before and after images of her complete facial reconstruction -- requiring eight hours of surgery.
The patient is ambulatory and recovering well, according to the surgeon.
The CT scans were first posted on medical website Figure 1 and were viewed 643,398 times. This week the images were shared to Imgur and Reddit, drawing the attention of a nonmedical audience.
