VIENNA – The recent move to decriminalize medical errors in Italy is already having a major impact on clinical practice, according to ECR 2024 and European Society of Radiology (ESR) President Prof. Carlo Catalano. Other European nations should lobby governments for similar changes, he noted in an exclusive interview on the opening day of the congress.
Catalano speaks about the positive mood and healthy participation levels from both professional and industry attendees, and he elaborates on why Italians love ECR so much. He also remembers his mentor Prof. Roberto Passariello, who was the last ECR president to come from Rome back in 1999.
Catalano is chair of radiology at Policlinico Umberto I and professor of radiology at Sapienza University of Rome. He has run the Radiology Training Program at Sapienza, the largest in Italy, for more than a decade. His main interests are cardiovascular imaging, oncologic imaging (especially abdominal and genitourinary diseases), and interventional radiology, and he was among the first users of MR angiography and MR-guided interventions.
