The upcoming ECR 2019 meeting will feature three new highlights, with a major content focus on artificial intelligence and interventional radiology. These are in addition to traditional events and activities that attendees have come to expect at the Vienna congress, according to the European Society of Radiology (ESR).

ECR 2019 takes place 27 February to 3 March, and will be the conference's 25th meeting in Vienna. With a motto of "the bigger picture," ECR 2019 will highlight the fact that it is more than just a radiology congress: It is an event where radiologists, radiographers, nuclear medicine physicians, medical physicists, and other imaging professionals meet in a single location, according to ESR.

ECR 2019 will feature three new events:

  1. Cube 2.0, the second iteration of ECR's dedicated area for interventional radiology content, which was first launched at last year's meeting. Due to its popularity, Cube 2.0 will be moved to the DC Tower, a short walk from the main conference hall at the Austria Center Vienna. The move will give Cube 2.0 more than twice the space compared with last year's location, and will enable the display of simulators, devices, and expert-led sessions on interventional radiology.
  2. Women in Focus, a new event dedicated to women in radiology spearheaded by Dr. Hedvig Hricak, chair of the radiology department at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The event will feature speakers sharing their stories on topics related to women working in healthcare, such as leadership, mentoring, and working in challenging environments. Women in Focus will be held at The Church, close to the main conference hall.
  3. A new format for the opening ceremony on the evening of Wednesday, 27 February. The new format will take place as an inauguration and will emphasize a theme of the five senses, with special scents created and set a unique atmosphere. The ceremony will also feature a stage and light design by artist Amra Bergman.

In addition to the three new events, ECR 2019 will feature recently introduced highlights such as the Voice of EPOS moderated poster presentations and Coffee & Talk sessions of short lectures and relaxed discussion. Reappearing after its debut last year will be My Thesis in 3 Minutes, which gives residents and young radiologists the opportunity to present their thesis as a first author. These sessions will again be held at the Sky High Stage in a building across from Austria Center Vienna.
