The U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has collaborated with cancer care charities and professional groups to draft and release safety information about the novel coronavirus for radiotherapy patients.
The pamphlet, called "Protecting people with cancer from coronavirus when going for radiotherapy," was crafted by the RCR, the Society and College of Radiographers, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, Cancer Research U.K., and Macmillan Cancer Support. It was unveiled on 18 May.
The document is intended to guide and reassure cancer patients visiting the hospital for radiotherapy treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it underlines efforts hospitals are taking to protect patients, including checking patients for disease symptoms on arrival, adjusting access routes into hospital department, maintaining social distance in waiting rooms, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
"We want to reassure anyone visiting for radiotherapy that cancer treatment and support teams are doing everything we can to keep you safe from the virus," Dr. Tom Roques, medical director of professional practice for clinical oncology, said in a statement released by the RCR.
