The European Society of Radiology (ESR) plans to highlight children's health and social issues in a program at ECR 2020.
Called Children in Focus, the program is being organized by pediatric radiologists Dr. Lil-Sofie Ording Müller, PhD, from Oslo University Hospital in Norway and Dr. Catherine Owens from Great Ormond Street Hospital in the U.K. The European Society of Paediatric Radiology (ESPR) is also lending its support and expertise.
The program will include topics such as bringing healthcare to children in low-resource areas, the medical and legal dilemmas of using imaging in cases of child abuse, and issues surrounding consent in pediatric medicine, according to the ESR.
The program will be dedicated in memory of Prof. Helen M.L. Carty, an Irish-born pediatric radiologist and former ECR president (2004) and ESR gold medalist (2009) who died in 2017.
