The Horizon 2020 Medirad project on implications of medical low-dose radiation exposure has launched, coordinated by the European Institute for Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR).
The 10 million euro initiative is the first EIBIR has managed in the area of radiation protection research. EIBIR and partners the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), the European Federation of Organizations for Medical Physics (EFOMP), the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS), the European Society of Radiology (ESR), and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) have provided guidance for the project.
Medirad's clinical coordinator is Dr. Guy Frija, chair of Eurosafe Imaging, the ESR's initiative to promote quality and safety in medical imaging. Its scientific coordinator is Dr. Elisabeth Cardis, head of the radiation program at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health, ISGlobal.
