Pope Francis will briefly attend the closing session of the upcoming European Society of Cardiology (ESC), to be held in Rome later this month.
ESC 2016 poster.He will appear at the Fiera di Roma conference site on 31 August, and will deliver a few words to congress attendees.
The Pope's appearance is "an indication of his ongoing commitment to public health and the fight against cardiovascular disease," ESC President Dr. Fausto Pinto of the University of Lisbon said in a statement.
