The U.K. Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has issued a guarded response to the government's plan for the faster diagnosis of cancer.
"We welcome this indication that the government is preparing to get serious about investing in diagnostic testing services," RCR President Dr. Giles Maskell said. "The ambition to reduce the length of time patients have to wait for cancer test results is absolutely right, but there is nothing in this announcement which indicates how the new 28-day target can be met for patients having x-rays and scans. We are currently a million miles from being able to deliver this."
Maskell emphasizes the only way to achieve the objective is to recruit and train more radiologists.
