The European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical, and Healthcare IT Industry (COCIR) is urging European Union (EU) member states to quickly harmonize interpretation and enforcement of its data protection regulation.
COCIR's support comes after the European Parliament this week approved the General Data Protection Regulation, which is designed to protect all personal data and advance growth, innovation, and data in healthcare.
To achieve these goals, COCIR stated it is imperative that governance mechanisms and coordination be established between National Data Protection Authorities to balance protection of citizens' privacy.
EU member states have two years to pass the new regulations.
