Elekta wins CE Mark for radiation therapy couchtop

Radiation oncology firm Elekta has received the CE Mark for its new modular couchtop for radiation therapy, the company said.

Elekta's Connexion modular couchtop is now available for market in the European Union. It allows clinicians to adapt the couch to each patient's needs, with interchangeable modules that connect to a baseboard and a variety of extensions, according to Elekta.

Connexion offers four indexed modules, including an imaging module for image-guided therapy (IGRT), intensity-modulated therapy (IMRT), and volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) techniques; a lateral opening module for techniques that use oblique fields, such as stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT); a central opening module that allows for the reduction of skin doses via a dedicated area where attenuation and dose build-up are minimized; and a head and neck module that supports head and neck immobilization, Elekta said.
