Siemens Healthineers unveiled a new digital platform at this week's Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in Orlando, FL, that aims to bring together its customers and software developer partners, as well as facilitate sharing of data and knowledge.
Called Digital Ecosystem, the platform will enable data from imaging, in vitro diagnostics, and medical documentation systems to be combined and assessed, according to the vendor. Siemens said its customers will also be able to exchange data and knowledge with other experts beyond their own institutions.
Digital Ecosystem is based on the vendor's teamplay cloud-based network and brings together other platforms such as the company's LifeNet or Point of Care Informatics software, according to Siemens. It's built on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and currently contains several million data records that provide, for example, insight into imaging device utilization or associated radiation doses, Siemens said.
The platform comes with open application programming interfaces (APIs) to enable application developers to create and offer services that will be seamlessly integrated into a shared digital healthcare platform. Partner companies will also gain access to a large pool of in vivo and in vitro data, and be able to share their offerings in markets all over the world using Digital Ecosystem, Siemens said.
Initial partners slated to participate in Digital Ecosystem include Arterys, Dell EMC, SecondOpinions.com, Stroll Health, SyntheticMR, 3D Slicer, TMC, USARad, and Viewics, according to Siemens. Additional partners -- including application developers, service providers, device manufacturers, platform developers, and data providers -- could also participate in the platform, which is expected to be commercially available in the autumn of 2017.
