The Fraunhofer Institute for Medical Image Computing (MEVIS) in Germany has developed new algorithms for adjusting radiation therapy during the course of treatment
The algorithms correct for different positions patients take during radiation sessions and shift initial CT images, if necessary, to better calibrate the treatment area.
The company developed these techniques as part of the Software Platform for Adaptive Multimodal Radio and Particle Therapy with Autarkic Extendibility (SPARTA) initiative, which began in April 2013 and includes 10 collaborators across a variety of disciplines, Fraunhofer MEVIS said.
