Toshiba Medical Systems has filled out its mobile CT scanner fleet in the U.K. with the addition of the vendor's Aquilion Prime 160-slice scanner.
The new scanner can fit onto existing mobile imaging docking stations at hospitals and is 13.5 m long and 2.5 m wide when traveling, according to the vendor. It extends to 5.25 m in width when three specially designed pods are deployed to provide a large control room, a dedicated room for postprocessing, and two changing rooms.
The mobile scanner is currently being used by independent hospital services provider Ramsay Health on a daily basis across 12 of its hospitals in England and travels an average of 3,500 miles per week. As with other models in Toshiba's mobile CT fleet, the new mobile unit was designed in partnership with vehicle manufacturer WH Bence, based in Bristol, U.K.
