Siemens Healthcare used last week's European Congress of Radiology (ECR) to launch a new line of MRI patient tables, called Magnetom Combi Suite, designed to support a broader range of interventional radiology procedures.
The Combi Suite tables come in three configurations, designed to support neurosurgery, neuro- and cardiovascular interventions, and radiation therapy. They are based on a new dockable table designed to enable interventionalists to easily transport patients from the interventional room to an MRI scanner.
The Combi dockable table is compatible with neurosurgery operating tables from Maquet or Trumpf. During an operation, the patient lies on a shell on the operating table, and if the surgeon needs an MR image, the patient can be moved with the shell onto the Combi dockable table and directly into the scanner. The use of MRI makes it easier for surgeons to distinguish healthy from malignant tissue, ensuring that the entire tumor and surrounding tissue are removed.
Magnetom Combi Suite works with Siemens Aera 1.5-tesla and Skyra 3-tesla MRI scanners. The product line is scheduled to begin shipping later in 2012, when regulatory clearances are received.
