Shimadzu unveils radiography, angio units

Shimadzu has released a new fully digital radiography/fluoroscopy (R/F) system, the Flexavision F3 with a portable dynamic flat-panel detector.

The product, which will be displayed at the forthcoming European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna, has a compact structure and flexible configuration options, and can be configured from a basic R/F table into a multifunctional R/F examination room. Its flat-panel detector has a field-of-view measuring 35 x 43 cm, and can be turned from portrait to landscape format in the table. It can be removed from the bucky tray to allow direct projections on and beside the table, as well as at the bucky wall stand.

An oblique projection feature enables users to obtain angles required for cranial and caudal projections. To support thorax radiography, the x-ray tube can be extended up to 150 cm, or alternatively be rotated by 180° for a projection onto a bucky wall stand. The three-in-one system can be used for general radiographic exams of the thorax, pelvic region, and extremities, as well as for barium enema to gastrointestinal, nonvascular radiological interventions, urograms, and other urinary tract contrast media acquisition exams, according to the company.

In addition, the company has released the Bransist alexa, its new multipurpose digital angiography system that also will be on display at ECR 2012. The system is available in two versions: the C12, a ceiling-mounted system, and the F12, a floor-mounted system. It features a flat-panel detector with a field-of-view measuring 30 x 30 cm that can cover the patient's entire body from the abdomen to the head region to support cardiovascular interventions, as well as interventions in the lower extremities.

The C-arm of the system can be controlled and rapidly positioned using its CyberGrip or CyberConsole. Projection angles can be set easily, with a six-axes triple-pivot construction. Additionally, the C-arm can be positioned at a speed of up to 25° per second, according to the company. Standard positions of the C-arm can be stored in a direct memory system, with up to 72 projections retained. The table and C-arm movement of the floor mounted system provides a longitudinal coverage of 190 cm and a transversal coverage of 140 cm. For the ceiling-mounted system, coverage is 287 cm longitudinally and 160 cm transversally.
