The 14th meeting of the International Society for the History of Radiology (ISHRAD) was held on 11 October in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Organized by Prof. Mats Geijer from Gothenburg along with ISHRAD, the meeting was held in the Birgit Thilander Room in the Sahlgrenska Academy, part of the Sahlgrenska teaching hospital complex.
The meeting focused on the theme of pioneers in early radiology, including those from the interbellum period. Speakers gave talks on topics such as the centenary of the first international congress of radiology in London, pioneers like Giuseppe Vicentini, the first German physicist Walter Friedrich, early recording media in radiography, Sebastian Gilbert Scott, early brachytherapy in the U.K., and early radiology in European countries.

Lectures also covered the history of neuroradiology and the trailblazing U.S. transgender radiologist Dr. Alan Hart. One presentation also covered the successful inclusion of six of Prof. Wilhelm Roentgen’s radiographs in the UNESCO Memory of the World program in 2025.
Speakers came from eight countries, including Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, and Sweden.
"ISHRAD remains a vibrant society dedicated to promoting scholarship on the history of radiology and the allied sciences with annual meetings held in the autumn," noted Dr. Arpan K Banerjee, chair of ISHRAD. "Meetings have been held in cities afar as Buenos Aires, Brussels, Paris, Cracow, Remscheid, Eindhoven, Verona, Erlangen and London."
Banerjee is also co-editor of and contributor to "Pioneers in Radiology Worldwide at the time of Roentgen." The book is now also available in a French translation.
The next ISHRAD meeting will take place on 17 October 2026 in Rzeszów, Poland.
