Canon Medical Systems hosted its first European MRI safety course in London.
The European MRI Safety Matters training seminar covered a range of topics, from understanding static magnetic fields and focal power deposition to safety assessments for implants and foreign bodies. Dr. Emanuel Kanal, director of MR services at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, directed the seminar.
The event additionally served as a platform to request more collaboration among clinicians, scientists, and industry members, as well as a better approach to regulating MRI safety, Canon said. Nearly 200 radiologists, radiographers, and medical physicists attended the two-day event.
Following the course, the American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS) administered a U.K.-adapted MR safety certification exam for interested attendees. Those who passed the exam will be the first group to obtain MRI safety accreditation in the U.K., according to Canon.
