MR-guided focused ultrasound developer InSightec announced that more than 1,000 patients received treatment with its Exablate Neuro system.
The device delivers focused ultrasound beams to the thalamus, which is the area of the brain thought to be responsible for causing essential tremor, a common neurological condition that causes shaking of the hands, the company said.
More than 30 Exablate Neuro systems are now being used to treat patients for essential tremor as well as for research on additional indications for the device, according to the firm.
