Planmeca expands product line

Finnish dental imaging technology developer Planmeca has added a new cone-beam CT (CBCT) scanner and an intraoral system to its portfolio of products.

Viso is a next-generation CBCT scanner that features enhancements for positioning patients and adjusting the field-of-view, according to the vendor. Operators can now perform patient positioning directly from the unit's control panel using integrated cameras and a live video view, the company said.

Users can also adjust the field-of-view directly from the control panel's live video view, and can access the unit's control panel directly from the imaging workstation, the company said. Planmeca said the system employs a 25 x 30-cm flat-panel sensor that can acquire images of the entire maxillofacial area without the need for image stitching.

Planmeca has also included its iterative Calm algorithm for patient movement correction. A new imaging arm design enables more patient space and shorter image acquisition times, according to the firm. In addition, Viso is equipped with a new head support and four integrated cameras aimed at the patient, enabling a new way of capturing the firm's ProFace 3D facial photos.

Planmeca has also added Emerald to its computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing product line. Designed to serve as a compact and lightweight intraoral scanner, Emerald weighs 183 grams and includes an integrated color scanning option, according to the vendor.

Emerald includes an active antifog feature for the scanners' tip mirror, an autoclavable tip and seamless design for infection control, and hands-free operation with a foot control, the company said. It's also compatible with the firm's Romexis and PlanCAD Easy software suites. Planmeca said it expects to begin deliveries of Emerald in the third quarter.
