Siemens Healthineers is collaborating with medical charity Cobalt and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) on a new MRI research facility in the U.K.
Scheduled to open in January 2017, the MRI facility will be based at QEHB's Institute of Translational Medicine (ITM) and will be known as the ITM Imaging Centre. Cobalt will be investing 2 million pounds (2.35 million euros) in the project, which will include a purpose-designed building for the QEHB site and a Siemens Skyra 3-tesla MRI scanner.
With staff from both Cobalt and QEHB, the ITM Imaging Centre is expected to perform a broad range of research for many specialties, including oncology, neurology, cardiology, and liver. It will also evaluate techniques that are not yet commercially available, according to Siemens, Cobalt, and QEHB.
