GE secures IT deal in southeast England

GE Healthcare has signed a seven-year managed care contract to equip four hospital groups of the Kent & Medway Medical Imaging Consortium of East Kent Hospitals University National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust, U.K., with IT equipment, including patient information viewers.

The consortium's first implementation of GE's universal viewer will enable single-point access to image and test results throughout all four trusts via a cloud-based system, with data kept offsite via GE's partnership with Cable & Wireless, GE said.

Included in the contract are some of GE's latest IT products including a Radiology Information System (RIS) that replaces the facility's existing healthcare software systems RIS as well as a new enhanced PACS network that enables archiving, image-sharing, and cross-document sharing technology via the Centricity clinical archive, GE said.

The technology is expected to facilitate the sharing of information between hospital departments, fostering collaboration that could help patients and their physicians make more informed decisions, the company said.
