Belgian federation establishes e-health group

UNAMEC, the federation of the medical technologies industry in Belgium, has established an information and communications technology healthcare group.

A number of software companies developing products for medical use have already joined the group, according to a report from Eucomed. The group will follow the definitions and classifications relating to IT related healthcare as defined by COCIR, the European Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical, and Healthcare IT Industry.

One of the main objectives of the new e-health group of the more than 200 member organization is to develop safer and more effective care processes. Another goal is to unify the powers of suppliers of IT products in healthcare, according to Eucomed.

The group intends to submit study projects to the KCE (the Belgian Healthcare Knowledge Center) and the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance to have a direct entry point for future reimbursement. Another priority of the group will be to assess the feasibility of establishing intercompany pilot projects, Eucomed reports.
