Radiation oncology firm Elekta has received the CE Mark for its new multileaf collimator, Agility.
Agility has 160 five-mm-thick tungsten leaves, with a leaf speed of up to 6.5 cm per second. This feature enables radiation oncologists to sculpt unique contours of tumors with extreme precision for delivery of radiation doses, the company said.
Its large field configuration will enable users to shape radiation dose across fields of up to 40 x 40 cm. Integrated dynamic leaf guides are designed to streamline delivery and eliminate the need for split fields.
Agility works with Elekta's Rubicon optical positioning system and Integrity R3.0 software, which precisely coordinates leaf movements with variable dose delivery rates and other treatment parameters.
The new collimator may be purchased as part of a new Elekta radiotherapy system, or as an upgrade option to a large part of Elekta's installed base of linear accelerators, the company said.
