Synergy Health expands x-ray business

Medical device sterilization service provider Synergy Health has acquired irradiation sterilization services company Leoni Suder Hard from the Leoni Group of Nuremberg, Germany for 47.6 million euros.

Leoni Suder Hard operates a gamma and x-ray facility in Däniken, Switzerland, the only provider of irradiation sterilization services to the medical device, pharmaceutical, and packaging industries in Switzerland.

The acquisition by the U.K.-headquartered firm expands its geographic presence in Europe, giving Synergy access to what it described as a well-developed, high-value-added medical device sterilization and pharmaceutical market in Switzerland.

Synergy Health currently operates two facilities in Germany, in Allershausen and Radeberg and one in Marseille, France. It will be opening a second French facility in October 2012 in Marcoule.

During 2011, Leoni Suder Hard recorded revenues of 10.4 million Swiss francs (8.63 million euros). Its assets are valued at 35.7 million Swiss francs (29.6 million euros).

In addition, Synergy Health will also gain access to x-ray technology and the intellectual property required to develop the benefits of this new application in sterilization and polymer modification.
