Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has sold four TrueBeam radiotherapy systems to the Maastro Clinic in Maastricht, the Netherlands, as well as four systems to Lund University Hospital in Sweden.
The Maastro Clinic ordered its first TrueBeam system in March 2011, which is expected to start being used soon to deliver stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiotherapy, and image-guided intensity modulated and volumetric radiotherapy treatments to patients, Varian said.
Two systems were ordered in early October for Maastro's satellite clinic in Venlo, which will be installed in 2012. The Maastro Clinic also signed a contract for the company to provide three additional trueBeam devices, and it ordered a full suite of software for treatment planning and oncology information management, according to the company.
In September, Varian was awarded a contract for four TrueBeam systems that will be installed in 2012 at Lund University Hospital. The hospital is replacing two older linear accelerators. The hospital recently merged with Malmo University Hospital. The two hospitals treat 4,000 patients annually, and the intention is to increase patient treatment capabilities by 1,500 with the additional equipment, according to the Varian.
