Over the past couple of years, very little has been said or written about the possibility of overdiagnosis in breast cancer screening, but the issue came to prominence this week following the publication of a paper by a group of mammography skeptics.

Another topical issue in breast screening is how the use of artificial intelligence (AI) software can improve accuracy and reduce workload. The findings of a large multinational study involving nearly 1.2 million digital mammograms have just been published, and they deserve a close look.
Interestingly, the European Society of Radiology (ESR) has now unveiled the results of its comprehensive survey about the implementation of AI. Conducted during the first quarter of 2022, it attracted responses from 690 radiologists. The findings are pretty mixed, but at least the analysis provides a picture about the state-of-play in Europe.
The ESR has also issued advice on the wearing of face masks at ECR 2022, which begins on 13 July.
