Further evidence of the rapid progress being made by MRI researchers in Turkey was provided at last week's RSNA meeting.
Three musculoskeletal specialists from Ankara collected one of the 24 hotly contested magna cum laude awards in Chicago for their work on the challenges, optimization, and applications of zero echo-time imaging. Don't miss today's report on their groundbreaking efforts.
Meanwhile, German researcher Dr. Dominik Deniffel won a top prize for trainees at RSNA 2021 for his analysis of prostate MRI and biopsies. His group's analysis involving 754 patients found that the most clinically useful strategy in patients with a low-risk threshold (less than 5%) is to perform no systematic biopsy in PI-RADS 5 cases.
In other RSNA news, Austrian researchers have conducted what they say is the first MRI study to investigate prenatal alcohol exposure. They found that fetuses exposed to alcohol had increased volume in the corpus callosum and a decreased volume in the periventricular zone.
Another Austrian group that excelled at the Chicago congress reported that nonscanning time between abbreviated breast MRI exams contributes to workflow problems, preventing more patients from being imaged.
In another article from RSNA 2021, investigators from Munich in Germany explained how they've used MRI to show mild to moderate COVID-19 during pregnancy does not have any harmful effects on fetal brains.
